Why convert SVG to PNG?
SVG files are best for logos and icons that must stay sharp at any size. PNG is the better choice for screenshots, logos and graphics with sharp edges or transparency. It opens in every browser, phone and image editor, while SVG opens in browsers, Illustrator, Figma, Inkscape.
PNG is lossless, so nothing your SVG file contains is thrown away on the way.

What happens to your file
Your browser decodes the picture with its own built-in image decoder, draws it onto an invisible canvas at full resolution, and re-encodes the pixels in the new format. This is the same code your browser uses to show images on every web page, so it is fast, and the pixels never leave the tab.
Tips for a clean conversion
- Drop a whole folder's worth of SVG files at once. They convert one after another and you can download everything as a single ZIP.
- Keep your original SVG files until you have checked the results. Converting back later is rarely lossless.
- PNG keeps everything it receives, so the result is only ever as good as the SVG file you start with.
About the formats
SVG: Vector graphics described in XML. Scales to any size without losing sharpness.
PNG: Lossless image format with transparency. Best for screenshots, logos and graphics with sharp edges.
