Why convert Markdown to HTML?
Markdown files are best for notes, READMEs and documentation. HTML is the better choice for content that will be read on the web. It opens in every browser, while Markdown opens in any text editor, Obsidian, GitHub.
HTML is lossless, so nothing your Markdown file contains is thrown away on the way.
Markdown vs HTML at a glance

|---|---|---|

What happens to your file
The Markdown is parsed with Marked, a fast open-source parser that follows the CommonMark and GitHub-flavoured Markdown rules. Headings, lists, links, code blocks and tables all become proper HTML, wrapped in a simple, readable page you can open in any browser.
Tips for a clean conversion
- Drop a whole folder's worth of Markdown files at once. They convert one after another and you can download everything as a single ZIP.
- Keep your original Markdown files until you have checked the results. Converting back later is rarely lossless.
- HTML keeps everything it receives, so the result is only ever as good as the Markdown file you start with.
- Front matter (the YAML block some note apps put at the top of a file) is not stripped. Delete it first if you don't want it showing on the page.
- The HTML file includes a small stylesheet so it reads well when opened on its own. Delete the style block if you are pasting the markup into another website.
About the formats
Markdown: Lightweight text formatting used by developers, notes apps and READMEs.
HTML: The language of web pages.
